Biography
In 1994 two brothers and a friend launched The Mopeds as an informal musical collective. The trio captured a handful of demos inside their bedrooms, treating the project as pure recreation instead of a professional pursuit. Over the next three years the musicians tightened their interplay and began appearing at venues throughout their native Sweden. Critics soon characterized the group’s output as “typical Swedish pop,” likening it to XTC, The Cardigans and The Presidents of The United States of America while noting the band’s signature lo-fi production and humorous lyrics. Vibrafon Records enabled them to document this approach through several 1997 releases that comprised two singles, the Hände Hoch EP and the full-length debut The Hills Are Alive With The Sound of Mopeds.
