The Morrison Brothers Band stake out singular territory in present-day country by merging vintage Southern rock textures with the crisp, inviting pulse of current mainstream fare. Their approach lands between the gritty edge of Blackberry Smoke and the glossy sheen of Brothers Osborne, yielding a robust sonic profile paired with sharp melodic instincts, qualities that surface clearly across the self-titled EP issued in 2016. Before that release, the group issued multiple independent albums centered on their Washington, D.C. home base. Willie Morrison on vocals and Truman Morrison on guitar launched the outfit in 2007 during their college years in Los Angeles, later teaming with guitar-playing Kevin Nolan and drummer Matt Nolan after an encounter at the 2008 New Orleans Jazz Fest prompted a move to Washington, D.C. Bassist Dave Benson spent time in the lineup alongside Alyson Gilbert, a contestant on Nashville Star. That configuration built a loyal regional audience throughout the early 2010s and appears on the 2013 independent album State of the Union. Following 2014, Gilbert departed while Derrick Royer stepped in for Benson, after which the streamlined Morrison Brothers Band shifted operations to Nashville. Constant touring ensued, among them support dates for singer/songwriter Maggie Rose, who developed an affinity for the group. Her involvement led to a commission for a theme song tied to the Washington Capitals hockey franchise, and she went on to produce the 2016 self-titled EP issued via Play It Again.
