Biography
In May 2012 Jordan Walker and Johnny McGuire joined forces to create the country duo Walker McGuire. The pair capitalizes on contrasting backgrounds by merging roots rock textures with modern country sounds while anchoring their work in layered harmonies and candid lyrical narratives. Walker, who spent his childhood in Vernon, Texas, revealed an early gift by performing the National Anthem at area athletic contests at the age of three. His formative listening included Keith Whitley, Dan Seals, and Reckless Kelly; while enrolled at Midwestern State University he began performing original material in nearby honky-tonks. Eventually he relocated to Nashville in pursuit of a professional career. During a songwriters showcase at a Music City venue shortly after his arrival, he encountered McGuire, who was raised in Fairway, Kansas. McGuire had received his first guitar at age five and was already joining regional ensembles by age six. Drawing from Tom Petty, Doc Watson, and John Prine, he brought a literate, roots-oriented vocal and instrumental approach that complemented Walker’s direct country sensibility, prompting the two to collaborate as a unit. Walker McGuire quickly established a steady performance schedule throughout Nashville and gained broader attention when syndicated radio hosts Big D & Bubba began regularly featuring the duo on their program. Building on that momentum, the pair maintained a rigorous touring pace of as many as 300 shows annually across the United States. Their first single, “Til Tomorrow,” appeared in March 2016 and chronicled a protagonist navigating the aftermath of a romantic split; the track accumulated nearly twenty million streams. A follow-up release, “Mama’s Kitchen Table,” followed later in the year, and in January 2018 the duo issued its self-titled debut EP.
