Biography
An Australian indie folk-pop endeavor called the Outdoor Type revolves around Melbourne singer/songwriter Zack Buchanan. Drawing from vintage Australian pop outfits such as the Church and the Go-Betweens while borrowing the project’s moniker from a track by ’90s outfit Smudge, Buchanan laid down his self-titled debut EP in 2015, earning solid airplay on Triple J and AMRAP across Australia. That same year he issued the hooky folk-pop single “On My Mind,” a modest hit that secured a contract with Canadian powerhouse Nettwerk Records. In 2016 he resurfaced with the follow-up single “Rumination,” shifting the Outdoor Type toward a fuller live-band format both in recordings and during repeated Australian tours.
