Biography
Hailing from Los Angeles, Trace produces soulful electro-pop positioned between Lana Del Rey’s breezy West Coast cool and James Blake’s moody, R&B-kissed ruminations. Although she is the daughter of iconic Vietnamese pop star Carol Kim, the aspiring writer initially had no intention of entering the music industry in her mother’s footsteps until she discovered her own voice. She began recording tracks inside her bedroom studio in 2014, material that would form her debut EP. The moody “Heavy Shoulders” surfaced the next year, and the crowd-funded EP Low arrived in 2016, accumulating millions of streams and securing her first record deal. Ultra Records issued “Side Eye” and “Anxiety” in 2018, the latter single developed in partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Health. Her sophomore EP Like Hell followed in 2019, with Cry, Baby released in 2022. She signed with Antifragile before unveiling her fourth EP, previewing it via the 2023 singles “Stomachache” and “Commotion.”
