Biography
Tre Coast, a North Carolina-based singer, songwriter, and producer, shapes pop songs that merge hip-hop rhythms with electronic dance textures, drawing from the styles of Kanye West, Chris Brown, and Diplo. With both parents working as singers, he took up piano at age eight and cut his debut recording at thirteen. An early online posting featured his cover of Justin Bieber’s “All That Matters,” followed by further takes on Bieber tracks such as “Cold Water,” “Where Are U Now,” and “What Do You Mean?,” plus interpretations of material by Lukas Graham and Drake. Drake’s pop-rap approach surfaced in Coast’s first originals, where he rapped on “Your Last” and “Don’t Talk to Me,” cuts that surpassed six million streams. His third single, “Hit Me Up,” placed greater weight on sung vocals. With the 2016 release “Stuck in Between,” Coast concentrated production around sleek electronic layers and tropical rhythms. Issued in 2017 on electronic producer Tep No’s label, “I Can’t Let You Go” extended the move from rap into electronic pop.
