Emerging in the mid-2010s alongside other hazy, self-assured R&B vocalists, Tyus shares sonic territory with PartyNextDoor and Bryson Tiller. A scattering of standalone tracks preceded his first full-length effort, the 2016 album Never Forget.

Portland, Oregon, provided the 1996 birthplace for Tyus, who developed an interest in recording during his high-school years before leaving at sixteen to focus on a music career. Still in his teens during 2015, he placed several tracks on commercial release that year, among them “XXX,” “Room 723,” and “Cash Flow.” Once Warner Bros. offered a recording deal, the label reissued his early-2016 single “My Way,” setting the stage for the nine-track Never Forget that October. Phases followed as an EP in 2018, with the “demo tape” project TYuS Sessions-2k19 arriving the next year.
