Biography
Formed in London during 2018, the British electro-punk duo Wargasm took its moniker from an L7 track issued in 1992. Sam Matlock, previously a member of Dead!, joined forces with concert photographer and model Milkie Way to assemble the project. Their sound fused nu-metal, industrial rock, post-hardcore, EDM, and hip-hop into an aggressive hybrid that recalled Poppy refracted through Limp Bizkit, drawing additional inspiration from Limp Bizkit, Loathe, SHVPES, Slipknot, and Poppy themselves. Hardcore punk, dubstep, screamo, and alternative metal supplied the raw materials for an unyielding attack that first surfaced on the 2019 single “Post Modern Rhapsody.”
That track paved the way for the 2020 breakthrough “Spit,” after which further releases such as “D.R.I.L.D.O.,” “Salma Hayek,” and “The Void Stares Back” amassed millions of streams and positioned the pair at the forefront of the ongoing nu-metal resurgence. Their Republic-issued debut EP, Explicit: The Mixxxtape, arrived in 2022 and collected several of those cuts. The following year brought Venom, Wargasm’s first full-length album, which included a guest appearance by Fred Durst on the track “Bang Ya Head.”
