Biography
South Korean performer Xiumin, recognized equally for singing and acting, first rose to prominence through membership in the massively successful boy band EXO. His initial solo outing arrived via the 2022 EP Brand New.
Born Kim Min-seok in Seoul in 1990, he spent his formative years in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, and later pursued music studies at Catholic Kwandong University. After placing second in SM’s Everysing Contest in 2008, he entered the agency’s trainee program. Four years later he debuted with EXO, serving as lead dancer, vocalist, and rapper. The group repeatedly claimed the summit of both the Gaon and Billboard World charts with releases that included XOXO in 2013, Exodus in 2015, Don’t Mess Up My Tempo in 2018, and Obsession in 2019.
Parallel to his work with EXO, Xiumin took on acting roles in the 2015 web drama Falling for Challenge, the 2016 film Seondal: The Man Who Sells the River, and multiple episodes of the MBC reality series It’s Dangerous Beyond the Blankets. Outside the band he also paired with NCT’s Mark for the 2017 single “Young & Free.” In 2019, ahead of enlisting for mandatory military service, he issued his first solo track, “You.” Following his discharge, he returned with the Brand New EP, which entered the Top Ten in both South Korea and Japan.
