Biography
Yumi Nu, previously known simply as Yumi and born in New Jersey, channeled equal drive into modeling and music. She brought the creative aims formed in her teens to fruition in her early twenties, shaping a gentle singer/songwriter approach on the EPs Ego Boost (2019) and Hajime (2022).
Although she entered the world in Englewood, New Jersey, the model and musician experienced a mobile childhood, relocating to Maryland at seven before establishing roots in Newport Beach, California at fourteen. In her teenage years Nu kept both pursuits alive, scheduling singing lessons around modeling assignments and completing her first original song at sixteen. Her uncle, electronic music figure Steve Aoki, opened a path through his Dim Mak Records label, which issued her debut EP, Ego Boost, in 2019. After introducing Blueki, her own plus-size clothing line, in the early 2020s, Nu resurfaced musically with the 2021 single “Bouquets” and followed it by releasing her second EP, Hajime, in May 2022.
