Biography
ALEXSUCKS fuses the early-2000s East Coast rock revival’s visual and sonic trademarks with an ear for propulsive beats and instantly memorable hooks. The band first drew widespread notice through the rapid-fire single “Talk to You” in 2021, then refined its attack on the debut full-length The Gutter, issued in 2023. Its high-octane concerts mirror the woozy, high-velocity spirit that defines the group’s best recordings.
Lead singer Alex Alvarez grew up in Denver, Colorado, before moving to Los Angeles. While deeply immersed in skateboarding, he also began releasing music on his own, self-producing the EP Angsty Teen and the standalone track “Talk to You” that same year; the latter quickly spread across social platforms. After issuing additional solo singles throughout 2022, Alvarez expanded ALEXSUCKS into a four-piece by enlisting fellow members of the local skate community: guitarist John Luther, bassist Garrett Orseno (also known as DJ Topgun), and drummer Ethan Demoulin. The expanded lineup brought a sharper rhythmic emphasis to later releases such as “Can We Forget.” Working with producer Brendan O’Brien, the quartet unveiled The Gutter in 2023, which included the breakout cut “6 Pack and Cigarettes.” Momentum carried the band to a sold-out headline show at The Roxy in Los Angeles and an appearance at the Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas that year. Subsequent singles arrived in the form of 2023’s “What’re We Doing Here,” whose video depicted the musicians as LEGO mini-figures, and 2024’s “Whatever I Want.”
