Five years after advancing to the semi-finals on Idol Colombia, the Latin pop singer and composer wove R&B, trap, and reggaetón into the solo recordings she issued on a major label. Born in Barranquilla, Colombia, in 1997, Aria Vega studied at Marymount School, where her singing in a school production drew notice when she was only six. During adolescence she pursued formal musical training with an emphasis on vocal method and theory. At seventeen she reached the later rounds of Idol Colombia, then returned to Barranquilla to pursue studies in social work and joined a local band. In 2019 she chose to launch a solo career, issuing her first single, “Fuego en la Pista,” in February to modest attention. That same month she joined Madeiro for an online cover of “Shallow” from the A Star Is Born remake. Before the year closed she secured a solo contract with Warner Music and kept posting selected duets. In February 2020 she teamed with Alejandro Santamaria for a rendition of Mau y Ricky’s “La Boca.” September brought her first EP, Nivel 1_Elevar. The opening track, “Rosé,” was produced by the veteran electronic musician Tezzel, also known as Mateo Cano, and mixed by the Latin Grammy-winning Mosty.
