Biography
Growing up in Greenville, Texas, Bart Millard first encountered music when a football injury during high school directed him toward the school choir. His father's death came just one semester into college, prompting Millard to pursue a new path by accompanying his youth pastor's praise band to Lakeland, Florida. It was in that setting that he created the ultra-successful Christian rock group MercyMe and later shifted to Oklahoma. His initial solo album, Hymned No. 1, merging traditional gospel, Texas blues, and the Southern hymns of his youth, came out in August of 2005.
