Biography
Weymouth, Massachusetts, provided the home base for Beyond the Sixth Seal, whose melodic death metal drew primary influence from Swedish forebears including In Flames and Dark Tranquillity. The band formed in 1998 and, after releasing a pair of demo tapes, issued the EP A Homicide Divine in 2001. Its roster at the time included vocalist Lawrence Kwong, guitarists Justin Chappell and Adam Wentworth, bassist Rob Devlin, and drummer Brendan Roche. The 2002 full-length Earth and Sphere marked the arrival of vocalist Mike McKenzie (also known as Gunface of the Red Chord) and bassist Matt Woods, yet the album became the group’s final statement before the members parted ways in late 2003. Several years afterward Beyond the Sixth Seal reemerged as a trio consisting of guitarist/vocalist McKenzie, drummer Roche, and bassist Gregory Weeks. With no touring scheduled, the project functioned primarily as a studio outlet for McKenzie and his Red Chord colleague Weeks. In early May 2007 the trio revealed its return via the album The Resurrection of Everything Tough, issued on Metal Blade Records.
