Biography
Blessing Offor, a Nigerian-born singer and songwriter, possesses a richly expressive voice whose foundations draw from pop, R&B, CCM, and soul traditions. His first major-label project, Brighter Days, arrived in 2022, after which he scored two Billboard-charting singles, “Believe” and “My Tribe,” both featured on the 2023 album My Tribe.
The youngest of six children, Offor entered the world with congenital glaucoma that left one eye blind from birth. His parents arranged for him to travel to the United States with an uncle so he could obtain specialized treatment, yet an accident with a high-powered water gun later damaged his remaining retina and cost him sight in that eye as well. He spent his childhood in Connecticut immersed in Motown, jazz, and pop records, taking up piano at age nine. During his teenage years he began composing original material and later refined his craft at Belmont University in Nashville. Although the city offered abundant opportunities, his soul-inflected pop approach stood apart from prevailing trends, prompting a move to New York City.
In 2014 Offor competed on season seven of The Voice, earning spots on the teams of both Pharrell Williams and Adam Levine while receiving guidance from Alicia Keys and Taylor Swift. He returned to Nashville the next year energized by the experience. Soon afterward he contributed vocals to recordings by Chris Tomlin and Lee Brice and earned songwriting credits alongside Ed Cash, Natalie Hemby, Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line, Breland, and Trevor Rosen of Old Dominion, among others. He ultimately signed with Chris Tomlin’s Bowyer & Bow label, an imprint under Universal/Capitol Christian Music Group. His debut EP on the roster, also titled Brighter Days, came out in 2022. A sequence of singles, highlighted by the Billboard Christian Airplay success “My Tribe,” cleared the path for his first full-length album.
Released in January 2023, My Tribe incorporated selections from the earlier EP together with new tracks such as “Rollin’” and “Won’t Be Long Now.” Offor dedicated the project to his sister Mercy, who passed away shortly before its release.
