Emotive, dance-infused pop and R&B flow from the pen and voice of Christian vocalist and songwriter Tauren Wells. Attention first arrived while he fronted the CCM group Royal Tailor, after which he stepped out alone with the 2017 Grammy-nominated album Hills and Valleys. Further chart traction followed on the 2020 release Citizen of Heaven and the 2022 set Joy in the Morning.

Born in Battle Creek, Michigan, Wells joined forces in 2011 with Indiana Bible College peers DJ Cox, Jeremy Guzman, and Blake Hubbard to launch the faith-based dance-pop outfit Royal Tailor; Jarrod Ingram completed the lineup shortly thereafter. Between 2011 and 2013 the band issued two full-length albums plus one EP, collecting two Grammy nominations and a Dove New Artist of the Year trophy along the way. Wells later exited to build a solo path, signing in 2016 with Sony CCM’s Provident Label Group and issuing the single “Love Is Action” before the EP Undefeated appeared the same year.

The single “Hills and Valleys” surfaced in early 2017, quickly becoming a Christian-radio staple and setting the stage for the June arrival of the debut full-length bearing the same title. Sustained airplay of that track and “When We Pray” helped secure a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. Wells resurfaced in 2020 with the sophomore album Citizen of Heaven, which reached number three on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart. He opened 2022 by unveiling the Aaron Cole-assisted single “Fake It,” the lead track for Joy in the Morning—his first project on Capitol Christian Music Group.
