Biography
Bobby Raps, the Minnesota rapper, singer, and producer known for his raspy delivery and introspective lyrics, first drew nationwide notice through his role in the St. Paul collective the Stand4rd. While still attending high school he began writing rhymes and crafting beats, then self-released his debut mixtape, Gimme Daps, as a senior. His skill in battle rap earned him opening slots for E-40 and Too $hort. After linking up with local R&B singer Spooky Black (aka Corbin), the two started cutting tracks together. Their initial collaboration, “Ready,” drew interest from Psymun and Allan Kingdom, prompting the pair to join the duo and form the Stand4rd. The resulting quartet dropped its self-titled debut in 2014 and promptly sold out its first tour. Outside the group, Bobby Raps kept working independently and gained viral traction with “Feed the Streets,” a cut included on the promotional mixtape Watch the Stove. In 2015 he issued the couch potato EP alongside Corbin as well as the Wicked City project with producer SinGrinch. After signing to Republic Records he unveiled his first full-length album, MARK, in 2017. The 14-track set, which showcased production from Shlohmo and D33J, highlighted his woozy Auto-Tuned croon and emotional raps.
