Catie Turner had already built experience across the talent-show circuit before earning a slot on American Idol’s sixteenth season. She placed seventh, then achieved broad recognition in 2019 through her first EP, The Sad Vegan, and the singles “Prom Queen” and “I Luv Him.” After a breakup in 2021 she converted the setback into the upbeat six-song EP Heartbroken and Milking It.

A Langhorne, Pennsylvania native, Turner began writing guitar-based songs at an early age and auditioned for every competition within reach. Prior attempts on America’s Got Talent, The Voice, and American Idol’s fifteenth season proved unsuccessful, yet the determined performer persisted until her acceptance onto the 2018 season of American Idol. An original composition, “21st Century Machine,” impressed the judges and carried the fan favorite into the Top Ten before she finished seventh. She leveraged that visibility to release The Sad Vegan in 2019, which included the streaming successes “Prom Queen” and “I Luv Him.” Two years later the reflective single “Therapy” introduced her richly textured sophomore EP Heartbroken and Milking It, centered on the aftermath of the split. Turner again used songwriting as an outlet in 2023 on Comedy & Tragedy: Act 1, confronting the death of her father.
