Hailing from California, Cheyo Carrillo stands out as a skilled and engaging vocalist and accordion player whose approach to Mexican banda-infused pop emphasizes poetic lyrics. Xavier Carrillo entered the world in Los Angeles during 1998, where frequent outings to banda performances alongside his family sparked his interest. Around the age of three, his singing began, leading quickly to appearances billed as Xavier "El Cheyo" Carrillo, a moniker eventually trimmed to Cheyo Carrillo. Accordion lessons started when he turned eight, and by thirteen he had already joined tours alongside Buknas de Culiacan as well as Alfredo Rios el Komander Band. During one such outing with Rios, Adolfo and Omar Valenzuela—known collectively as Los Twiins Valenzuela—noticed his talent and offered a contract with their Twiins imprint. The 2014 album Cheyo Carrillo marked his first full release and included tracks like "Huele a Aventura" along with "Como Pudiste." Two years afterward came the standalone "Es Normal."
