Biography
Born in Flint, Michigan, Bryan Jones spent his formative years in Little Rock, Arkansas. Recording at first as SL Jones, he joined Killer Mike’s Grind Time Rap Gang—the crew that predated Run the Jewels—and issued a steady run of solo mixtapes and albums from 2009 to 2014.
Adopting the name Cuz Lightyear, a nod to the Toy Story character Buzz Lightyear, Jones unveiled the 2015 mixtape CUZ and pivoted toward a broader palette that stretched from Auto-Tuned hooks to off-kilter cadences over hazy, narcotic productions. The project drew fresh attention, prompting a 2016 signing to Mass Appeal, which then issued the nine-track follow-up What Up Cuz in 2017. That set carried a Metro Boomin’ production alongside appearances from Maxo Kream, Killer Mike, and G Perico.
Blue Slime arrived the next year, tilting further into melody while again featuring Killer Mike along with Yung Bans and Lil Baby.
