Biography
Australian DJ and producer Dom Dolla infuses his buoyant house productions with an easygoing sense of thrill and playfulness, threading together hypnotic house rhythms and melodic pop hooks. Years of Australian club traction preceded the 2018 single "Take It," which broke through internationally and exposed his sound to millions of fresh listeners. He sustained that growth with further successes, among them 2019’s platinum-certified, ARIA Award-winning “San Frandisco” and 2022’s “Miracle Maker,” which enlisted Clementine Douglas. Three major releases arrived in 2023: the ARIA-winning MK collaboration “Rhyme Dust,” the Nelly Furtado-featuring “Eat Your Man,” and “Saving Up.”
Born Dominic Matheson in 1992, Dolla found early inspiration in dance acts such as Basement Jaxx and began DJing at pubs and parties while employed in graphic design. The Melbourne-based artist joined the Sweat It Out label in 2015 and soon drew broad attention for his singles, remixes, and live sets. His production work on Go Freek’s 2015 track “Define” turned it into a club favorite, and his own initial releases “You” and “Love Like This” resonated in EDM circles, prompting a 2016 series of remixes for “You.” In 2017 he issued the exuberant single “Be Randy,” a joint effort with fellow producer Torren Foot that ascended the Australian charts; he followed that achievement with 2018’s “Take It.” While maintaining a schedule of festival dates and club performances, Dolla continued issuing singles and delivering remixes for Hayden James, Dua Lipa, Rufus Du Sol, and others, eventually bringing his sets to larger platforms that included Coachella and additional international festivals.
In 2020 he joined Sonny Fodera for “Moving Blind,” whose gritty vocal hooks and sharp house rhythms quickly amassed millions of streams, and he collected the ARIA Award for Best Dance Release for “San Frandisco.” Over the ensuing years he unveiled “Pump the Brakes” and the Mansionair-assisted “Strangers” in 2021, then the anthemic “Miracle Maker” in 2022, whose prominent hooks came from Clementine Douglas. February 2023 saw the arrival of “Rhyme Dust,” a Q-Tip-sampling collaboration with MK that spread virally, charted across several territories, and later received the ARIA for Best Dance/Electronic Release. June 2023 brought the single “Eat Your Man” featuring Nelly Furtado, which reached the summit of the ARIA Club Chart and earned further ARIA nominations, while October introduced the disco-infused club track “Saving Up.” Dolla earned a Grammy nomination for his remix of the Gorillaz song “New Gold.”
