Biography
Japanese singer Eri Shugai (pronounced airy soo-gah'-ee) spent her childhood in Osaka before turning professional at age 23 once her schooling ended. After relocating to Tokyo she issued her debut album, Watashi Wa Genki Davo (meaning "I'm Fine and So Happy"), across Japan in 1994. Session singing, above all for commercials, ultimately brought her the widest recognition. She further established herself as a songwriter by supplying Eriko Miura with "Dakishimete Destiny" and Akane Oda with "Anataga Irukara Kokoniiru," both of which reached the Top 40. Pacific Moon Records released her first U.S. album, Mai, in January 2001.
