Biography
Fyke, the Los Angeles outfit, channels an uplifting strain of shimmering synth rock to illuminate assorted social topics, channeling positivity and awareness through inspirational lyrics paired with glossy, pop-savvy anthems. The members, after logging years in assorted prior groups, assembled in the mid-2010s and later secured a Universal deal that yielded their opening EP, Nightmares. An expanded full-length version arrived soon afterward, followed by the band’s sophomore collection, Disorder, which surfaced in 2019.
Taiwanese vocalist Enik Lin fronts the project, which began life as a trio completed by guitarist Steven Delman and bassist/vocalist Mikee Fabella. Guitarist Justin Wright and original drummer Abe Kim joined later, though Kim departed and was succeeded by Gerard Christian. Drawing from an eclectic palette that includes John Mayer, the 1975, Linkin Park, Depeche Mode, and Bring Me the Horizon, the resulting quintet signed with Universal Music shortly thereafter and unveiled its debut single, “Favorite Mistake,” in 2017. The buoyant, pop-tinged rock track showcased a soaring chorus, glittering synths, and an energetic beat, yet the group subsequently ventured into heavier terrain on the Nightmares EP, which spotlighted the post-hardcore number “Sleepers.” The concise release was broadened into a full-length album of the same name in 2018, incorporating a stripped-down rendition of “Nightmares” alongside another helping of hardcore-derived aggression on “Awake.” That year also marked the start of a new chapter via the singles “Silhouettes” and “Til the End,” which tempered the earlier hardcore edges while heightening the optimistic tone with socially conscious lyrics centered on mental health, relationships, self-image, and hope. Disorder, the band’s second LP, reached listeners in July 2019 and welcomed contributions from Amber Liu of K-pop act f(x), James Lee—Lin’s former Royal Pirates bandmate—and Taiwanese pop star Vanness Wu.
