Soul-inspired vocalist Hannah Huston worked as a preschool teacher in Lincoln, Nebraska before trying out for the tenth season of the U.S. singing competition The Voice in 2016. Originally from Grand Island, about 100 miles west of Lincoln, she delivered Allen Stone’s “Unaware” during her audition. Pharrell Williams, Christina Aguilera, and Blake Shelton all offered her a spot on their teams. She chose Williams and, under his guidance, advanced to the final four by interpreting songs such as Etta James’s “Something’s Got a Hold on Me,” Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” and Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” along with additional classic R&B ballads. Huston ultimately placed third, finishing behind runner-up Adam Wakefield and winner Alisan Porter. Right after the finale, studio recordings of the tracks she had performed throughout the season were compiled for release, and her dramatic cover of the Police’s 1983 number-one pop hit “Every Breath You Take” entered the Hot 100.
