Biography
Brynn Cartelli commands attention with her richly emotive vocal style, weaving together elements of pop, dance, and country in her recordings. She first captured widespread notice in 2018 by becoming the youngest champion of the singing competition series The Voice. That year her tracks "Walk My Way" and "Last Night's Mascara" both reached the Top 20 on Billboard's Digital Songs chart, setting the stage for her initial EP, Based on a True Story, which appeared in 2021. Her first full-length project, Out of the Blue, arrived in 2024 and spotlighted the finely crafted singles "Gemini," "Girl Code," and "Boy from Home."
Cartelli entered the world in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, in 2003 and began performing as a child through community theater productions and local talent contests. As a high school athlete she delivered the National Anthem at Gillette Stadium in 2016. Two years afterward, during the blind-audition round of The Voice, her interpretation of Labrinth's 2013 collaboration with Emeli Sandé, "Beneath Your Beautiful," persuaded coach Kelly Clarkson to select her for the team. While competing she interpreted material by Sia, Adele, and Coldplay, joined fellow contestant Dylan Hartigan for an outlaw-country take on Taylor Swift's "...Ready for It?," and shared the stage with Clarkson on Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over." She also reimagined Lady Gaga's "Yoü and I" by substituting "New England" for "Nebraska," honoring supporters from her home region who helped advance her to the finals. On the season finale she performed alongside Julia Michaels, co-writer of Cartelli's original song "Walk My Way," and outpolled Britton Buchanan, Kyla Jade, and Spensha Baker to claim the Season 14 title. The resulting compilation The Complete Season 14 Collection, issued by Republic/Universal, entered the Billboard 200 upon release. Later in 2018 she released the single "Last Night's Mascara," and her debut EP, Based on a True Story, followed in May 2021 with contributions from Nathan Chapman and Ben Abraham.
Cartelli resurfaced in May 2022 with the single "Gemini," the earliest preview of her forthcoming studio album Out of the Blue. Issued in March 2024, the record was shaped by producers Keith Varon, Adam Argyle, and Henrik Michelson and balanced polished adult-contemporary pop with country and singer-songwriter touches. In addition to "Gemini" the set included the singles "Girl Code," "Convertible in the Rain," and "Boy from Home."
