Biography
Huntergirl serves as the stage name for country singer and songwriter Hunter Wolkonowski, already an experienced artist by the time she secured second place during the twentieth season of American Idol in 2022. Born in Gruetli-Laager, Tennessee, she spent her early years in the adjacent community of Winchester, singing regularly at the local church and entering numerous vocal competitions. Following high school graduation she relocated to Nashville, where daytime hours were devoted to earning a degree from Middle Tennessee State University’s Music Business School while evenings were spent refining her live performances throughout the city’s venues. Multiple songwriting victories came during this period, among them consecutive honors from the Nashville Songwriters Association International, and she provided support for Old Dominion, Florida Georgia Line, Kane Brown, Alan Jackson, Trace Adkins, Charlie Daniels, and Sara Evans. At age twenty she tried out for the 2022 installment of American Idol, receiving a platinum ticket—one awarded in each audition city to advance the recipient straight into the second round of Hollywood Week. Noah Thompson claimed the season’s top honor, leaving Wolkonowski as runner-up. Early 2022 brought the release of her debut EP, One Day, followed later that summer by the single “Red Bird.” Beyond her recording work, Wolkonowski actively backs military causes and veteran groups, among them Freedom Sings USA, Operation Song, Middle Tennessee State University, the Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veteran Center, and Soldier’s Child.
