Biography
Singer/songwriter Jason Lancaster first rose to prominence as the frontman and pianist of the emo pop band Go Radio, having previously served as singer and guitarist for Mayday Parade. Growing up in Florida, he began performing with the Tallahassee emo outfit Kid Named Chicago. After merging with members of the local group Defining Moment, he helped assemble the six-piece emo ensemble Mayday Parade, whose early regional popularity earned them a spot on the Vans Warped Tour and a contract with Fearless Records. Following the 2007 appearance of their debut full-length, A Lesson in Romantics, Lancaster departed amid exhaustion and growing disaffection with the music industry. He resurfaced the next year fronting Go Radio, whose style echoed his earlier work, and the group issued its first recording, the EP Welcome to Life, in 2008. Returning to Fearless Records in 2010, Go Radio delivered another EP and the full-length Lucky Street that same year. The band completed one additional album, 2012’s Close the Distance, before Lancaster again stepped away. Shortly after declaring Go Radio’s dissolution in 2013, he revealed plans to pursue a solo career independently. Seeking reduced touring demands and greater attention to his private and spiritual pursuits, he turned to crowd-funding to finance his debut record. Issued in July 2014, As You Are presented a more introspective and relaxed musical approach than his band projects had offered.
