Javier Torres

Javier Torres, recognized as both a vocalist and composer, established the ensemble Los Rehenes in the early 1980s within Fresnillo, Zacatecas—the identical locale that gave rise to Los Temerarios—and the act would later attain legendary standing. He initially shared leadership duties alongside his brother Roberto before assuming primary prominence. During the early 1990s the group adopted the designation Los Rehenes y Javier Torres. Torres pursued independent projects while continuing his contributions to the collective, issuing his debut solo effort, the 1994 album Con Banda, through Fonovisa, the imprint that has retained his affiliation. He ranks among his country’s most versatile composers, moving fluidly among banda, ranchera, mariachi, and plena forms. His catalog has maintained steady chart traction, while live appearances have extended throughout Latin and South America.
