Juan de Dios Pantoja Núñez first rose to global prominence through his activity as a social media personality and video creator before entering music under the alias JD Pantoja, where he directed his vocal abilities toward a fluid fusion of present-day Latin sounds. Following numerous strong single releases across the final years of the 2010s, he issued his initial full-length effort, the 2021 mixtape Tiempos.

Originating from Mazatlán, Mexico’s coastal city, Juan de Dios Pantoja Núñez, earlier credited as Juan de Dios Pantoja and JD Pantoja, cultivated an extensive audience on social platforms by producing videos that surpassed one million views in the mid-2010s. Capitalizing on that established platform as a video creator and public figure, he pursued his musical goals and entered the scene in July 2017 with the glassy Latin pop of “Dile Mentiras.” Adopting the JD Pantoja moniker, the emerging artist leaned into the electronically laced reggaeton and Latin pop prevalent in that period: 2018’s “Me Fascina,” “No Ha Podido,” and “Tu Novio Reclama” supplied airy yet seductive anthems, while “Juan de Roast Yourself” steered Pantoja into social-media-driven trap. After wrapping the year with the breakout KHEA collaboration “Se Motiva,” he devoted 2019 to an extensive sequence of singles, delivering eleven additional tracks that reinforced his artistic identity. These included the smooth trap anthem “Recuerdo,” the upbeat Elvis de Yongol collabs “KATUNGA” and “Welcome to the Maza,” and the sultry “Aroma,” a joint work with Dayme y El High and Rauw Alejandro. The 2020 release schedule proved equally abundant, highlighted early on by the Noriel-assisted pop of “Mi Plan,” the fragile, impassioned “Error,” and the breezy, lovestruck “Hagamos las Paces.” Paying tribute to his daughter, “12.19” appeared in July, while further successes such as “Santa Paloma,” “Grupo Firme,” and “Otra Noche” rounded out the year. Pantoja unveiled his debut mixtape, Tiempos, in March 2021. Gathering his prior hits alongside abundant new material, the project centered on the emotive Latin pop, reggaeton, and trap that defined his output to date, yet also explored singer/songwriter terrain and drew broader influences from wider Latin genres.
