Biography
Emerging from London, the vocalist Joel Compass first gained attention through his initial extended play, Astronaut, which arrived in 2013. Issued via the Black Butter imprint, the project showcased his abilities across singing, songwriting, and production while reflecting the effort he had invested. He drew on intimate personal episodes, pairing them with brooding, atmospheric soundscapes to shape a fusion of R&B and contemporary soul that quickly invited parallels with the Weeknd and D'Angelo. In 2014 the single “Back to Me” generated substantial streams on YouTube and SoundCloud before entering the U.K. Top 40. Its successor, “Forgive Me,” climbed to number 26 and solidified his standing among the country’s rising R&B voices.
