Biography
Joshua Speers projects the seasoned aura of a lifelong wanderer far beyond his years, channeling an iconic American archetype through music that fuses Springsteen's working-class edge with sleek, heartfelt contemporary pop. He built his foundation busking on sidewalks, playing in ensembles, and backing other acts on the road before signing a solo contract and delivering his first label project, the 2020 EP Human Now.
Born in Delaware, where his father served as principal of an elite boarding school, Speers pursued a distinctly blue-collar path, logging extensive drives through the Northeast. After finishing high school he crossed the continent to Colorado, spending time there as a street performer while also logging stretches in jam bands and devouring books. Deeply shaped by Joan Didion's prose, he cultivated a songwriting identity as a literate, openhearted rock & roll outsider who embraced life on the move. He cycled through odd jobs, rebuilt and rode motorcycles, threw pottery, toured as Caroline Rose's bassist, and reached Los Angeles in 2018. There he joined a circle of similarly minded newcomers and, within a year, secured a deal with Warner Bros., which released his debut single "Happy Birthday You're Alone," a stark portrait of romantic rupture. Follow-up tracks including "Bad Night" and "Stray Bullets" rounded out the 2020 EP Human Now.
