Kali launched his music profession as a member of Sixième Continent, widely regarded as Martinique's premier reggae ensemble, which achieved major success via its 12-inch single "Reggae Dom-Tom." During the late '80s, he took up a banjo that had been a family heirloom for a hundred years and turned his attention to an alternative form of traditional sounds—the music associated with St. Pierre, Martinique's capital that Mount Pelée's eruption obliterated early in the century. His banjo playing frequently appears on both zouk and folkloric recordings, including those featuring Pier Rosier and Ze Top as well as Max Ransay and Malavoi's most recent work.
