Emerging from Argentina as a five-piece ensemble, Kapanga began its journey in 1989 under the title Kapanga y sus Yakarés. Shortly thereafter, however, the project dissolved due to inactivity. Revival came in 1995, at which point the ensemble adopted the streamlined name Kapanga. The year 1998 saw the launch of their inaugural record, A 15 cm. de la Realidad. Subsequently, "El Mono Relojero" marked the group's inaugural success. August 1999 brought the release of Un Asado En Abbey Road, with Operación Rebenque following in November 2000. During that period, the band played shows across American locations, connecting with enthusiasts of Latin rock throughout Miami, Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago.
