Emerging from South London, rapper Kid Bookie fuses grime and rock through a potent blend of hip-hop driven by anthemic qualities and layered guitars. His entry into the vibrant British grime landscape came with the 2014 debut single “Evolution 2.0 the Temix,” after which a steady stream of further releases followed. A 2020 link-up with Slipknot’s Corey Taylor prompted Kid Bookie to lean into metal, culminating in the 2024 full-length fusion of grime and metal, Songs For the Living//Songs For the Dead.

Raised in South London, Kid Bookie first picked up guitar during childhood yet turned to hip-hop in his teens and embraced it fully. Early partnerships with Dot Rotten positioned him as a fixture in the local grime community. The 2014 single “Evolution 2.0 the Temix” showcased appearances from Lady Leshurr, Samantha Mumba, Crooked I, and Dot Rotten. Later that year the EP Throw Away Music arrived, introducing guitar textures to his palette, while the debut mixtape Some Kind of Hate also surfaced. Subsequent projects included the follow-up tape You’ll Rate Me When I’m Dead and the EP Shake Up. In 2019 he joined forces with Slipknot’s Corey Taylor for the track “Stuck in My Ways” and later featured on Taylor’s solo debut CMFT. Metal influences had already begun surfacing in Kid Bookie’s output, and they took center stage on the 2021 album Cheaper Than Therapy. The following year he teamed with Wheatus to rework their ’90s staple “Teenage Dirtbag” into “Bookie’s Dirtbag.” Returning to the studio, he shaped a sophomore album that foregrounded the metal and emo strands now running through his music. Early 2024 brought the preview singles “Scars” and “Love Me When You’re Angry,” setting the stage for the mid-year arrival of Songs For the Living//Songs For the Dead.
