Biography
KOLAJ is a Los Angeles duo pairing vocalist Teesa Houston with DJ and producer Mighty Mike McGarity, who together craft romantic pop grounded in electronic textures. Born in Japan, Houston was raised in the United States after being adopted into an American military family. A self-taught guitarist, she later relocated to Los Angeles to build a music career. McGarity, who trained as a jazz drummer, has also worked with artists such as Kelly Clarkson and FKA twigs. The pair first crossed paths in 2009 when Houston held auditions for drummers to join her band. Their quick rapport prompted them to launch a side project. By 2015, however, KOLAJ had become their main endeavor, drawing a widening audience through tracks such as “100 Degrees” featuring Quinn XCII, “The Touch,” and “First Time with You.”
