Lao

Lauro Robles, known professionally as Lao, entered the scene as a Mexican DJ and producer focused on experimental electronic dance music beginning in the early 2000s. He co-established the N.A.A.F.I collective and continues to serve as its A&R representative while also launching the labels Extasis Records and Baby Thug, with the latter dedicated exclusively to Mexican urban music. His productions characteristically fuse electronic textures with Latin American rhythms including reggaeton, cumbiaton, and regional Mexican styles, a sound that has taken him to stages at Berghain, Razzmatazz, and Circus Tokyo as well as festivals across Europe and Latin America such as Coachella, Sonar Barcelona, Sonar Ciudad de México, MUTEK, and Estéreo Picnic. In 2018 Lao claimed victory in the NTS Radio x Sonos international competition. His recorded output comprises the albums Singularity (Version 1) (2019), Los Baby La Mixtape (2020), Clásicos, Vol. 1 (2020), and Chapultepec (2024), together with a wide array of EPs and singles.
