Biography
Emerging initially in 1999 as a solo project fronted by vocalist Daniel Jakobi within the German death metal scene, Lay Down Rotten evolved into a complete band lineup the following year. Prior to entering the studio, the group incorporated a trio of additional musicians, allowing them to finish a four-track demo by November 2000. Returning to recording sessions in 2001, the band built further momentum through a string of well-received live appearances in 2002 along with grassroots buzz generated by their demo material. This led to the release of their debut full-length, Paralyzed by Fear, on Remission Records in 2004, which was followed by a German tour. Shortly afterward, Lay Down Rotten strengthened their lineup by bringing in second vocalist Jost Kleinert. Subsequent recording sessions yielded the albums Cold Constructed and Breeding Insanity, paving the way for a contract with Metal Blade. Their first release for the label, Reconquering the Pit, arrived in 2007, after which the band spent the remainder of the year performing at festivals including Party-San, Queens of Metal, and Ragnarock.
