Biography
Germany's Necrophagist have long stood out for their strikingly elaborate and technically demanding renditions of inherently ferocious death metal, further embellished by lyrics that draw equally from pressing societal concerns and graphic anatomical decay. Established in 1992, the group continues under the direction of vocalist and guitarist Muhammed Suiçmez, though its other personnel have shifted repeatedly over the years. When the debut full-length Onset of Putrefaction arrived in 1999, Suiçmez handled every part alone, relying solely on a drum machine. Such an arrangement proved impractical for stage appearances, prompting a lengthy series of auditions and dismissals involving more than six temporary players until the lineup stabilized around guitarist Christian Münzner, bassist Stefan Fimmers, and drummer Hannes Grossman. That configuration supported the sessions for the follow-up release Epitaph, which surfaced in 2004. Notwithstanding the implications of its name, the band sustained activity and, by 2009, comprised Suiçmez alongside Fimmers, guitarist Sami Raatikainen, and drummer Romain Goulon, though no further recordings have emerged since.
