Brain Drill's ferocious and chaotic death metal style emerged in the summer of 2005 after guitarist Dylan Ruskin departed from Burn at the Stake. He quickly connected with drummer Marco Pitruzzella, renowned for his exceptional speed and prior stints in Vile, Vital Remains, plus additional extreme metal outfits. Steve Rathjen came aboard as vocalist to handle initial demo sessions, but was succeeded by Andre Cornejo, previously of Dead Syndicate. Next, Jef Hughell, an ex-Vile musician handling seven-string bass, joined the lineup, though Cornejo soon exited, paving the way for Rathjen's return. During 2007, Alex Webster of Cannibal Corpse endorsed the rising group during an interview, catching the attention of Metal Blade Records. That label inked Brain Drill toward the end of the year, issuing their first full-length effort Apocalyptic Feasting in the opening months of 2008. The follow-up album Quantum Catastrophe arrived in 2010.
