The pop duo Loote originated as a production outfit led by the singer-songwriters Jackson Foote and Emma Lov. Before crossing paths at college, the New York-based musicians had each already performed independently. Lov, who had sung and played guitar since childhood, began professionally by composing jingles for toy advertisements and kids’ television outlets. Paired with Foote on a 2014 classroom assignment, the two extended their collaboration beyond the course. Mentored by their instructor, producer Carl Sturken (Rihanna, *NSYNC, Christina Aguilera), they established Loote and secured a deal with Universal Music Publishing Group via Sturken and his partner Evan Rogers’ SRP. In that capacity they co-wrote and co-produced the platinum-certified U.S. and double-platinum worldwide hit single “No Promises” for Cheat Codes and Demi Lovato.

While continuing to write and produce for other acts and to remix material by Shawn Mendes and Mike Posner, Loote issued their own 2017 single, the tropical-tinged pop track “High Without Your Love.” Once that song appeared on a Billboard streaming chart, the pair followed it with “Out of My Head” and “Your Side of the Bed.” In 2018 they joined Joe Jonas on “Longer Than I Thought,” released the single “Back Together,” and delivered the EP Single. The next year brought “Better When You’re Gone,” featuring David Guetta and Brooks, along with “85%,” featuring Gnash. Early 2020 saw the arrival of “This Is How U Feel” and the Home Alone collaboration “Sex with My Ex,” both of which later appeared on the Heart Eyes EP.
