Biography
Enrique Morente's sudden passing in 2010, as a pioneering figure in flamenco, naturally triggered a wave of tribute recordings and projects. One of the most singular and arresting among them was Los Evangelistas, an indie rock supergroup assembled by Jota, Florent, and Eric of los Planetas together with Antonio Arias, vocalist of Lagartija Nick, the band that had famously contributed to Morente's groundbreaking Omega (1996). The group's 2012 album Homenaje a Enrique Morente left critics stunned by its unanticipated yet riveting fusion of flamenco and avant-garde rock. The outfit also disclosed plans for a follow-up release before the close of the year, once more enlisting Morente's daughter Soleá as guest vocalist.
