Gospel singer Maurice Griffin showcased his passionate songs of praise before millions of viewers as a contestant on the second season of BET's gospel talent reality show Sunday Best. He advanced to the program's final rounds, turning that visibility into a sustained path that supported both his recordings and his ministry work. Alongside serving as a worship leader for the Gospel Music Workshop of America, Griffin issued several albums and reached the Billboard charts with the 2019 single "Prove Me (I'm Yours)."

Born on a naval base in Virginia to military parents, Maurice Griffin grew up in Chicago. There he first entered gospel performance through the world-renowned gospel choir New Direction. Hardship marked his early path, and he was homeless on Chicago's streets just before being selected for BET's Sunday Best. The series quickly connected his voice to vast new audiences, after which he relocated successively to Florida, Texas, and Los Angeles, where he established faith communities while issuing his own albums and EPs. The 2011 album I Am Somebody: 1 Peter 2:9 preceded the 2013 full-length My Holiday and the 2014 EP Believer. As social media expanded, Griffin turned to the Internet to extend his message, sharing clips of songs, sermons, and daily life with his online followers. The 2019 single "Prove Me (I'm Yours)" climbed to number 26 on Billboard's gospel airplay charts during summer 2020 and paved the way for the subsequent album After God's Own Heart, scheduled for release later that year.
