Morne, a Boston, Massachusetts outfit, blends the dense, murky weight of sludge metal with exploratory atmospheric touches. The project first took root in 2005 as Milosz Gassan’s solitary vision. What began alone soon grew when bassist Max Furst and drummer Kevin Adams entered the fold, the latter arriving just ahead of the initial demo sessions. Once the roster stabilized, the sound moved beyond those early recordings, and in the following year Jeff Hayward—already known through his work with the doom and sludge group Grief—signed on as a second guitarist. By 2009 the now-complete lineup issued its first full-length album, Untold Wait. Although the release earned admiration from figures such as Darkthrone, the same year brought setbacks when Adams left over creative disagreements, forcing the cancellation of plans for a European tour that Alabama Thunderpussy’s Erik Larson ultimately helped cover. In 2010 the band secured a lasting drummer in Billy Knockenbauer while also adding keyboardist Ian Schultz on a permanent footing. Restored to full strength, Morne returned to the studio and delivered its sophomore effort, Asylum, in 2011.
