Harlem native Neek Bucks brings a fresh dimension to New York rap by anchoring street-level lyricism and a distinctly East Coast viewpoint in melodic cadences over polished production. His approach developed gradually across successive releases, shifting from the gritty, boastful tone of the 2014 mixtape Here for a Reason toward the more polished beats and narrative-driven writing on 2023's Blessed to the Max.

Raised in New York, Bucks committed to rap at age 15. A 2011 incident left him with migraine pain after a stray bullet grazed his head during an altercation in which he played no direct part. Three years later he underwent head x-rays that disclosed the presence of bullet shrapnel rather than a superficial wound, an event that shaped the 2014 mixtape Here for a Reason and supplied its cover imagery. Early recordings reflected heavy influence from Jay-Z and other New York rap figures, yet later projects embraced broader palettes; the 2018 release El Barrio incorporated trap rhythms alongside guest appearances from Dave East, Cory Gunz, and additional artists. He retained ties to his city’s foundational voices, a connection underscored by the 2021 album Neighborhood HOV. Blessed to the Max arrived in 2023 as his most expansive work to date, pairing an eclectic range of beats with contributions from 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa, Raekwon, Benny the Butcher, and others.
