Emerging in the wake of Skip the Foreplay’s dissolution, the Canadian metalcore outfit Now and on Earth fuses towering guitar noise, aggressive percussion, dark electronic overlays, and occasional pop accents into a sound that remains both unrelentingly intense and meticulously crafted. The Montreal group Skip the Foreplay, known for blending upbeat dance textures with metal, had issued its sole album, Nightlife, on Epitaph Records in 2012 before disbanding. Vocalist Marc-André Fillion along with guitarists Charles Pilon and Mathieu Maltais soon sought to continue creating music and, in 2014, joined forces with bassist and singer Anthony Alain-Rossi, keyboardist Phillipe Ferguson, and drummer Nick Tremblay. Steering Skip the Foreplay’s hybrid approach toward a markedly darker and heavier direction, the musicians took the name Now and on Earth; Epitaph in turn signed the new project. Working with producer Frank Daniel Shooflar, the band tracked its first full-length effort, Blacked Out, which appeared in April 2015.
