Biography
Hailing from Southern California, Painted Wives took shape in the early 2010s as a progressive doom metal ensemble pulling together disparate influences after the breakup of the acclaimed Orange County act Railroad to Alaska. The Huntington Beach unit features guitarists Justin Suitor and Jeff Lyman, drummer Derek Eglit, bassist Justin Morales, plus Ryan Williams, who serves as collaborator, conspirator, and outside lyricist.
Channeling the inventive force of Mastodon and Cave In alongside the ominous tone of Alice in Chains, the musicians funded their own recording of the debut album Obsessed with the End in 2014. Century Media soon signed the band, enlisting Clutch and Lamb of God producer Machine to remix and remaster the material for its official release in 2016. Returning to the same studio helm, Painted Wives issued several singles during 2020, among them the intense track “Truth & Consequences,” before unveiling the follow-up full-length New Medusa the next year.
