Biography
Rainsford serves as the pop alias for Rainey Qualley, a performer who also writes songs and appears on screen. New York City marks her birthplace, while her childhood unfolded in Missoula, Montana, and Asheville, North Carolina. She is the child of one-time model Paul Qualley and model-actress Andie MacDowell, as well as the sister of actress Margaret Qualley, recognized for her roles in Palo Alto and The Nice Guys. During her early adulthood she divided her schedule between Los Angeles and Nashville to pursue dual paths in film and music, securing an initial substantial part in the 2012 comedy-drama Mighty Fine as the daughter of characters played by Chazz Palminteri and her actual mother. Subsequent credits include the 2014 short film Pink & Baby Blue and a starring turn in the 2014 contemporary western Falcon Song. She also surfaced in 2015 as a model during the final season of the award-winning U.S. cable series Mad Men.
Her initial music release, the seven-track country project Turn Down the Lights, emerged via Cingle Records in June 2015 after production by Russ Zavitson, whose prior credits include Billy Ray Cyrus and the Wilkinsons, along with songwriter John Ramey, previously associated with Tracy Byrd and Don Williams. The set, recorded in Nashville, showcased a range of country-pop styles. Following her departure from Nashville the next year, she resurfaced under the Rainsford moniker with the sultry electropop single “S.I.D. (Sunshine in December),” whose vocal approach aligned with R&B-influenced pop. A comparable track, “Too Close,” arrived in fall 2016. She maintained modeling and acting work under her complete name in the interim, including a lead part in the 2016 short film No Other Like You, while readying the first Rainsford EP.
