Biography
Rollergirl serves as the performing alias for German vocalist Nicole Saft, also known professionally as Nicci Juice. Alongside her spouse, the Eurodance producer Alex Christensen, she scored two Top 20 singles in 1999 with “Dear Jessie” and “Luv U More,” followed in 2000 by the Top 40 entries “Eternal Flame” and “Superstar.” Born November 19, 1975, in Lünen, Germany, Saft first encountered Christensen on the Spanish island of Mallorca and soon began working with him musically. The Rollergirl name drew inspiration from the character portrayed by Heather Graham in the 1997 film Boogie Nights. Credited as Nicci Juice, she launched the project in 1999 with a cover of “Dear Jessie,” the 1989 European hit Madonna originally recorded for her album Like a Prayer—unreleased as a single stateside yet a Top 20 success in Germany. Rollergirl’s version also reached the German Top 20 and was succeeded by another chart-topping cover, “Luv U More,” first cut by Sunscreem in 1991. A third track, “You Make Me Feel Like Dancin’,” appeared exclusively in Denmark. All three selections appeared on the 2000 album Now I’m Singin’…and the Party Keeps on Rollin’, whose remaining tracks were original compositions written by Saft, Christensen, and their frequent collaborator Peter Könemann. Two further singles arrived in 2000—“Eternal Flame,” a 1989 Bangles hit, and “Superstar”—both of which landed inside the German Top 40 and prompted a 2001 reissue of the album that incorporated the new recordings. Additional Rollergirl releases followed with “Close to You” in 2001 and “Geisha Dreams” in 2002, after which Saft stepped away from performing to focus on motherhood.
