Sôber ranked among Spain's leading rock acts in the first years of the 2000s. The Madrid-formed group launched under the name Sober Stoned to honor the members' decision to forgo alcohol. Its first record, Torcidos, appeared in 1997, after which the musicians trimmed the moniker to Sôber and joined the Zero Records roster. Morfología arrived in 1999, yet only the third effort, Synthesis, drew substantial attention across Spain. Paradÿsso came out in 2002 and surpassed 100,000 copies sold, its progressive, guitar-driven hard rock style prompting comparisons with U.S. acts such as Tool.

One further album, Reddo, preceded an extended hiatus that began in 2005. During the pause each of the four members launched individual endeavors, though the side project Savia—a rock band that included Sôber colleagues Carlos Escobedo and drummer Alberto Madrid—ended abruptly when Madrid died in a car crash in 2006. Four years afterward the group reunited, bringing in Manu Reyes as the new drummer, and set about recording fresh material. Superbia reached stores in 2011 after an extensive tour that covered Spain, South America, and Central America.
