With a gentle approach distinguishing him among peers, the R&B vocalist SAFE echoes the styles of the-Dream and Drake. Although connections in his native Toronto proved useful, this singer, rapper, and composer established independence through the breakthrough single "Feel," which paved the way for the Stay Down EP (2015) and partnerships with Khalid and YG. Later works, from the RCA-released Stay (2019) to the self-issued Tell It Like It Is (2024), reflect SAFE's ongoing refinement of atmospheric slow jams infused with trap-styled production, dancehall, and Afrobeats.

Born Saif Musaad in Abu Dhabi, SAFE moved to Toronto as an infant alongside his family. He started composing and tracking material in high school, gaining traction via the collectives 878 (aka Halal Gang) and 176, then deepened his local ties after encountering Drake manager Oliver El-Khatib and securing a position at the flagship OVO store. In 2015 he achieved solo recognition by accumulating millions of SoundCloud streams for "Feel." That year the narcotic, Sade-sampling slow jam also surfaced on his debut EP, Stay Down, a largely solo affair featuring only 878 associate Smoke Dawg.

A couple of years afterward SAFE shifted to New York. In 2019 he appeared on Khalid's "Don't Pretend" and YG's "Play Too Much"—his most prominent guest spots to date—and delivered the album Stay, with production contributions from Frank Dukes, T-Minus, Doc McKinney, and DJ Dahi. Issued via his Bando Recordings imprint under a licensing arrangement with RCA that extended to additional singles and the 2022 project Get Home SAFE, Pt. 1, the set spotlighted the Kiana Ledé collaboration "Contagious," which swiftly amassed millions of streams. Between 2023 and 2024 SAFE expanded his independent catalog through SAFE & Sound and GHS, Pt. 2 before releasing Tell It Like It Is; these efforts included several Bibi Bourelly features and some of his most widely streamed tracks, among them the ethereal slow jams "No Answer," "No Diamonds," and "ttuctmd."
